Meet the Award-Winning Chef
Cornell “Corky” Barnett
Cornell Barnett’s 37-year food career began when he proudly served in the US Army as a food service specialist. Cornell’s love for food led him to the casual dining industry where he had the privilege and opportunity to work with some of the most talented cooks, kitchen managers and chefs from successful restaurant brands as Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, Chili’s Grill and Bar, and Outback Steakhouse. With hard work, dedication, and a great team, Cornell acquired ownership in thirteen Outback Steakhouses in Maryland and Virginia.
Cornell, aka Corky, was given the nickname by his late mother, who was one of the inspirations for Corky’s Crab Cakes. His mother loved to cook for family and friends, and everyone loved her great cooking. Definitely like mother--like son.
But why crab cakes? Despite growing up in El Paso, Texas, Cornell loves everything Maryland. His oldest daughter was born in Maryland, and his youngest daughter graduated from college in Maryland. The highlights of Cornell’s restaurant journey are here in Maryland where he raised his family.
Since Maryland is famous for its Blue Crabs and since Cornell loves to prepare food that brings a smile to people’s faces, his delicious Corky’s Crab Cakes were a culinary creation destined to happen!
